Benefits of staying on FORTEO

FORTEO® (teriparatide [rDNA origin] injection) is different from any other osteoporosis treatment available. FORTEO therapy lasts only 2 years at maximum in a patient's lifetime. And those 2 years of injections can reduce the risk of breaking a bone. FORTEO is the first medication that can actually reverse the course of osteoporosis by rebuilding bone.

A 2-year commitment

If you are taking FORTEO, it is important to think of your therapy as a commitment to yourself. Taking medication for an extended period of time can be a real challenge. Some days, you may not feel as though you're improving–after all, it's hard to know what's going on inside your bones. But in order to ensure that you get the maximum benefit from FORTEO, you should continue your therapy for as long as your doctor recommends.

If you find you are having difficulty with your FORTEO therapy, we have resources that can help you.

  • FORTEO is used in both men and postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk for having broken bones (fractures).
  • FORTEO is used in both men and women with osteoporosis due to use of glucocorticoids, such as prednisone, for several months, at high risk for having broken bones.
